Elementary Education/ Elementary Special Education, A.A.T. Frequently Asked Questions

To receive the AAT degree, students must have a 2.750 GPA, begin development of their professional teaching portfolio and submit qualifying scores for a pre-professional basic skills test approved by the Maryland State Board of Education (e.g. SAT, ACT, Praxis CORE) to the Carroll Community College Records Office prior to the final Carroll term.

The Introduction to Special Education course required by Carroll Community College is a necessary requirement of the College’s AAT degree, but is not sufficient to meet all special education or inclusion course requirements for 4-year teacher education programs.

Students must be in good academic standing in order to participate in field experiences. One field experience is allowed each term unless permission is granted by the Education Division Chairperson.
