Career & Employment Resources

Deciding on what career path to pursue can sometimes be a challenge, especially since there are so many choices in today's workplace. Carroll provides the following services to help students decide which career path to investigate. 

  • CAR-100, Career Development as a Life Process. This three-credit course helps you to set career goals and learn skills that contribute to lifelong career aspirations. The course is offered every fall and spring term. 
  • Computer-assisted career guidance is available in Career Development, A-118. Internet-accessible computers with suggested sites to explore are available for use. Some guidance programs, like DISCOVER, are available from a home computer via the Internet.
  • A Job Fair is scheduled each spring. The 2011 Job Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, April 6 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Jobs are posted on the Job Boards in the Student Center, Career Center and through our virtual job board on College Central Network. Check out the career links  and employment services for other opportunities to connect with employers.
  • Walk yourself through the Phases of Career Development for a step-by-step approach to career decision-making. 
  • Information about career requirements  such as education, salary and work environment is available online to credit students from any computer, using their student id. All others may access the information through computers in the Career Center
  • Job boards and career fairs are open to the community; however, we are unable to provide counseling services to individuals who are not enrolled students.  Services are available to community members at the Business Employment Resource Center in Westminster by calling 410-386-2820.

Opportunities Fair

An Opportunities Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 29 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. What can you do with your major?  Where do you get experience? Faculty and members of community agencies will be available to answer these questions and more. Learn about specific majors, Academic Communities, internships and how non-profit agencies can help you reach your goals! Complete the information sheet and get an ice cream and chance to win a gas card!

Career Development is a lifetime journey.  Most people change career paths five to seven times during their lives. MBTI and Leadership                               Monday, Oct. 11, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m. 
Personality preferences affect leadership styles and approaches. Using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, learn about the strengths and challenges you might face as a leader. Requires completion of MBTI in Testing Center by Wednesday, Oct. 6.

Make a Major Decision                            Thursday, Oct. 14, 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Unsure of what your major should be?  Learn how your interests and skills translate into a career. Held in the Student Life Lounge in K-Bldg. No registration required.

Facebook and Social Networking              Tuesday, Nov. 16, 5 - 6 p.m.
Join a discussion about use of facebook, networking sites, privacy issues and employment.

Resume                                                  Thursday,Nov. 18, 4:30 - 6 p.m.
Most employers scan resumes for 30 seconds to decide if they want to interview someone.  Learn to market your special talents and experiences to make them want to know more about you.

The Career Cafe is open throughout the fall and spring semesters in the Great Hall Come for free coffee and career information on planning, resumes, job searching and interviewing.

Grab some pizza and meet a panel of helping professionals as they discuss a variety of career fields. The spring 2010 panel included social work, psychology and counseling professionals. Spring 2011 will present new panelists, so check back for dates.

Internships

Internships are a valuable method to gain experience in a career field. Internships can be paid, unpaid or for credit. Contact Shawntay Stocks at 410-386-8413 for more information. In addition, you can research and learn about opportunities by registering with internships.com. To register, follow these instructions:

  • Visit www.internships.com or click on the link in the right column.
  • Click on Students and then click Join the Network. 
  • Select Carroll Community College from the drop down menu, enter the Promo Code "cccinternships01," and click Continue.
  • Register by entering your first name, last name and e-mail address, create a password, and click Sign Up. Confirm your e-mail address and password on the next page and then click Login. You can now begin to search for internships!
